Justin Fields’ Market Tanks As Bears Lose 7 Straight

Justin Fields has been a hobby favorite since joining the league as part of the 2021 NFL Draft, but a poor rookie season had fans, collectors and investors worried about his future in Chicago. An explosive middle of 2022 completely reshaped his market into one of the strongest in football, but seven straight losses for the Bears has his market tanking again.

Read about Fields and other trending stars and cards in this week’s NFL Market Movers update.

Cards listed below are PSA 10s with a minimum average of $30 and 10 sales over the last 30 days.

PRICE GROWTH PERCENTAGE RISERS

1. Joe Burrow 2020 Illusions Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 133%

2. Joe Burrow 2020 Chronicles Prestige Update PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 131%

3. Trevor Lawrence 2021 Mosaic Green PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 110%

4. Justin Jefferson 2020 Donruss Canvas PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 104%

5. Joe Burrow 2020 Score Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 102%

BURROW RECOVERS: After a stretch of falling prices, Joe Burrow‘s market has recovered some following a fantastic November and December. Burrow’s PSA 10s tracked by Market Movers were down 1% collectively just 60 days ago, but those PSA 10s are now up 7% over the last 30.

The Bengals lost a brutal 32-13 road game to division rival Cleveland back on October 31, and haven’t lost since. Cincinnati has piled up six straight wins with Burrow completing 67% of his passes with 14 TDs and just 4 INTs during that stretch. As expected, Burrow’s key rookies from Prizm, Optic, Select and Donruss are all up over the last month — that 2020 Prizm Base PSA 10 has been the leader in sales with 116 and is up 19% over the last 30 days.

2. Justin Fields 2021 Mosaic Base PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 55%

3. Justin Fields 2021 Prizm Silver PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 49%

5. Jaylen Waddle 2021 Donruss Press Proof Premium PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 44%

FIELDS CRASHES: As many collectors and investors have feared, Justin Fields‘ card market has tanked as the Chicago Bears pile up loss after loss. The good news here is that Fields’ entire perception has changed from “Fields might not be good enough” to “get Fields some help.”

Since beating New England back on October 24, the Bears have lost seven straight games and are now 3-11 on the season. It’s truly great for Fields’ market that he’s been playing well — the historic rushing is of course another bonus — but it’s hard to see it sustaining very well on such a bad team. Consecutive historic rushing performances back in early November got fans and collectors alike excited, but his market has tanked since.

Fields’ PSA 10s tracked by Market Movers are down 17% collectively over the last 30 days and his signature rookies are all down, too. Fields’ 2021 Prizm Base PSA 10, 2021 Optic Base PSA 10 and 2021 Select Concourse PSA 10 are all down in a major way, and his 2021 Donruss Base PSA 10 would be down 8% as well if not for a single recent outlier sale.

DOLLAR GROWTH RISERS

2. Ja’Marr Chase 2021 Optic Downtown PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $190

3. Tom Brady 2000 Skybox Impact Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $175

4. Tua Tagovailoa 2020 Prizm Lazer PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $135

5. Joe Burrow 2020 Optic Holo PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $108

HERBERT STILL TRENDING DOWN: At first glance, Justin Herbert‘s 2020 Optic Holo PSA 10 popping up as the biggest dollar growth riser this week would signal good news for his collectors. Unfortunately this Optic Holo is an outlier in an otherwise down market for the Chargers QB.

Herbert’s PSA 10s tracked by Market Movers are down 6% collectively over the last 30 days, and as expected, his lineup of Base rookies from Prizm, Optic, Donruss and Select are all part of the problem. Diving into Herbert’s stats over the last six games you can see where there might be some frustration — both from collectors and fantasy owners. Herbert has averaged nearly 300 passing yards per game while completing 69% of his passes, but he’s tossed just eight touchdowns during that stretch.

He hasn’t exactly been bad, but the Chargers are just 3-3 during that run and just 8-6 on the season. Herbert’s 21-to-9 TD-INT ratio would be solid for most QBs, but it’s not quite good enough for one of the MVP favorites entering the season, and his market has adjusted accordingly.
