How much is that card worth anyway?

Super Bowl Delivers Boost to Mahomes, Hurts and Kelce

The NFL season has wrapped up with a Super Bowl win for the Kansas City Chiefs, and stars like Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Travis Kelce all saw their card markets win big outside of the game.

Dive into the data for that trio plus the rest of the trending football market in this week’s NFL Market Movers update.

Cards listed below are PSA 10s with a minimum average of $30 and 10 sales over the last 30 days.

PRICE PERCENTAGE RISERS

1. Trey Lance 2021 Optic Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 150%

2. Travis Kelce 2013 Prizm Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 132%

3. Patrick Mahomes 2017 Panini Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 124%

4. Tom Brady 2020 Mosaic Pink Camo PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 94%

5. Jalen Hurts 2020 Optic Holo PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 90%

SUPER BOWL IMPACT: As expected, the Super Bowl appears to have provided a nice bump to several of the hobby’s key targets — mainly Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Travis Kelce. As a tight end, Kelce still lags pretty far behind other stars in sales volume and price point in most cases, but that’s also provided him the most growth opportunity this season.

Kelce’s PSA 10 rookies tracked by Market Movers are up 25% collectively over the last 30 days, with his 2013 Prizm Base PSA 10 showing as the biggest winner of the group. His 2013 Topps paper and Topps Chrome are both up big, too, and have sold with higher volume but a lower price point.

PRICE PERCENTAGE DECLINERS

1. Dak Prescott 2016 Prizm Silver PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 54%

2. Daniel Jones 2019 Select Premier Level Silver PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 52%

3. Joe Burrow 2020 Mosaic NFL Debut – Silver PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 51%

4. Jalen Hurts 2019 Select XRC Prizm Redemption PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 48%

5. Dak Prescott 2016 Donruss Base PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 47%

OFFSEASON FALLOFF: Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones are the two names that stand out here, and it’s just another example of how careful collectors and investors should be when targeting more volatile QBs — even those on playoff teams from major markets.

Jones and the New York Giants were a cool story this season, but the reality is that he hasn’t been a hobby favorite and even in wins didn’t always look incredibly strong. Jones’ market saw solid volume and price growth during the regular season, but has since seen a massive dip during the playoffs. Jones’ PSA 10 rookies tracked by Market Movers are down 27% collectively over the last month.

Once an extremely popular hobby target, Prescott has fallen off in a big way, too, and his market has been crushed since dropping out of the playoffs — his PSA 10 rookies tracked by Market Movers are down 32% collectively over the last 30 days.

DOLLAR AMOUNT RISERS

1. Patrick Mahomes 2017 Prizm Silver PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $1,220

2. Joe Burrow 2020 Contenders Rookie Ticket Auto PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $750

3. Patrick Mahomes 2017 Panini Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $360

4. Trevor Lawrence 2021 Optic Downtown PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $350

5. Peyton Manning 1998 Topps Chrome Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $235

ACTIVE GOAT: With Tom Brady now officially retired, Patrick Mahomes appears to have taken over the hobby’s football market and it’s hard to see anyone challenging him for the title anytime soon. As always, Mahomes’ prices are already quite high, so any significant growth is especially impressive.

Mahomes’ 2017 Prizm Silver PSA 10 should be closely monitored as a commonly shill-bid card, but the current growth on valid sales is phenomenal with a recent sale up over $5,000. Several of his other key rookies are up, too, with his 2017 Optic Holo PSA 10 up to $2,000, the 2017 Optic Base PSA 10 around $1,700 and his 2017 Donruss Base PSA 10 around $1,000.

One thing worth monitoring is still overall growth potential — Mahomes has won multiple Super Bowls and multiple MVPs. He’s the clear active football GOAT, but room on top of the current prices could start shrinking with extreme velocity even if he’s the best in the game.
