Pop Report: PSA Tops 1 Million Graded Items For First Time in July
PSA graded 1,001,612 items in July for a 13% increase compared to the 887,723 items graded in June ‘22 and a 36% increase over the 734,076 graded in July ‘21. This was a record-high month for PSA – surpassing the previous high reached in March ‘22 – and also the first time PSA has crossed 1,000,000 items graded in a single month.
From a category perspective:
- All the major sports had an increase in activity during July and all but soccer outpaced overall activity.
The mix of the top 50 players (and characters) graded during June were as follows
18 – Basketball
13 – Baseball
10 – TCG
8 – Football
1 – Hockey

An important consideration is what to make of this list. In the current situation where fears of junk slabs dominate the hobby, ranking high on this list likely is negatively correlated with price as that signals a meaningful number of slabs could move into the market in the near future. However, under normal circumstances, it could potentially be a leading indicator of positive price correlation as the list more accurately represents forward looking activity (i.e. bets being placed on players) and price potential.
