MiLB Report: Blaze Jordan Promoted After Hot Start

One of Boston’s top prospects, Blaze Jordan has quickly become a sports card hobby favorite because of his tremendous raw power. That thump earned Jordan a quick promotion to Single-A Salem last Tuesday, where he hopes to continue his scorching hot start to 2021.

Read about Jordan and four other prospects to watch in this week’s MiLB Report.

1. Blaze Jordan, 3B/1B, Boston Red Sox (89th overall pick in 2020)

Height: 6’2 | Weight: 220 | Age: 18

Season stats: .348/.397/.1.018; 3 HR

Last week’s stats: .700/.769/2.069; 1 HR

Jordan has been on MLB scouts’ radar since 2016, when he hit a 504-foot home run at the age of 13. An expected first-round pick, Jordan was set on going to Mississippi State and fell to the Red Sox in the third round. Due to the pandemic, Jordan agreed to sign with Boston. The 18-year-old has just been promoted from rookie ball to Low A.

2. Andy Pages, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers (International Signee)

Height: 6’1 | Weight: 212 | Age: 20

Season stats: .258/.373/.912; 21 HR

Last week’s stats: .409/.500/1.409; 3 HR

Pages dominated rookie ball in 2019 while batting .298 with 19 HR in 63 games as an 18-year-old. So far in Pages’ second year, he has been less consistent in the box. However, his power has not disappeared at all. Through 78 games, he leads High-A ball with 21 home runs.

3. Seth Beer, 1B/OF, Arizona Diamondbacks (28th overall pick in 2018)

Height: 6’3 | Weight: 213 | Age: 24

Season stats: .282/.396/.902; 11 HR

Last week’s stats: .455/.647/2.011; 3 HR

Beer, a former Freshman of the Year back in 2016 at Clemson and a first rounder back in 2018, was the big prospect piece (Astros’ No. 2 prospect at the time) which brought Zack Greinke to Houston in 2019. Beer has had a consistent pro career and is currently leading Triple-A in doubles (25).

4. Vaughn Grissom, SS, Atlanta Braves (111th overall pick in 2019)

Height: 6’3 | Weight: 180 | Age: 20

Season stats: .306/.407/.859; 5 HR

Last week’s stats: .450/.593/1.543; 3 HR

MLB comparison: Tim Anderson

Scouting ReportHit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 45 | Overall: 40

Cards To Watch: 2020 Bowman Chrome Autograph

In my opinion, Grissom is one of the best 11th rounders selected in an MLB Draft in a long time. In 2019, Grissom put on a solid campaign in rookie ball, slashing .288/.361/.761. While moving to High-A this season, Grissom is batting over .300 while maintaining a .400 OBP. He’s also showing a bit more power and the ability to draw walks.

5. Ivan Herrera, C, St. Louis Cardinals (International Signee)

Height: 5’11 | Weight: 220 | Age: 21

Season stats: .221/.350/.713; 9 HR

Last week’s stats: .360/.429/1.349; 4 HR

MLB comparison: Buster Posey

Scouting ReportHit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 30 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 55

Cards To Watch: 2020 Bowman Chrome Autograph

Herrera entered 2020 as the No. 3 prospect in the Cardinals farm system and he’s a player St. Louis is very excited about. He boomed in his first pro season in 2018 and had a solid 2019 season, proving that he can hit the long ball (9 home runs in 87 games). Herrera started his 2021 campaign slowly with a .200 batting average in the first half. Hopefully, this is the week the Cardinals’ top prospect catapults his 2021 season.
