LeBron James RPA sells for record $5.2 million
A 2003 LeBron James Upper Deck Exquisite RPA has sold for a record $5.2 million in a private sale, PWCC announced on Monday.
The patch-auto rookie parallel is now the most expensive basketball card ever sold and is tied for most expensive sports card ever with a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 9 rookie that was sold in January.
Both sales were privately brokered by PWCC.
One of the most iconic and important modern sports cards, the James RPA is graded a BGS 9 and is numbered to just 23.
Widely considered James’ best rookie card, this BGS 9 example is the third-best in existence.
A non-parallel version of this card, numbered to 99, sold for $1.7 million through Goldin Auctions Sunday night.
The record-breaking James RPA also takes the top spot for basketball cards from a Luka Doncic National Treasures Logoman RPA 1/1 that sold for $4.6 million in February.
