How much is that card worth anyway?

Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes Prices Surge During Playoff Runs

Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals didn’t quite make it to the Super Bowl, but that didn’t stop his card market from rising in a big way leading up to the AFC Championship game. Patrick Mahomes, however, is back in the Super Bowl, and his cards are trending just as expected.

Dive into the markets for Burrow, Mahomes and other trending players in this week’s NFL Market Movers update.

Cards listed below are PSA 10s with a minimum average of $30 and 10 sales over the last 30 days.

PRICE GROWTH PERCENTAGE RISERS

1. Tua Tagovailoa 2020 Mosaic Green PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 167%

2. Joe Burrow 2020 Select Premier Level Silver PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 145%

3. Daniel Jones 2019 Prizm Silver PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 129%

4. Joe Burrow 2020 Select Concourse Silver PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 118%

5. DeAndre Hopkins 2013 Topps Chrome Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ 113%

BURROW SURGES: Joe Burrow and the Bengals came up short against Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City in the AFC Championship — his prices have already reflected that — but the run-up to that loss was nothing but fantastic for the third-year QB.

Burrow’s PSA 10 rookies tracked by Market Movers jumped 19% over the last 30 days across over 2,400 total sales, and it’s been across a mix of his rookies. His flagship rookies from Prizm, Donruss, Optic and Select are all up in price percentage — his Prizm and Donruss are among the most sold, too — and his market is even seeing big bumps to more mid- and high-end cards like his Prizm and Select Silvers, Optic Holos, and his Contenders autographs.

The loss will certainly cause a market correction in the coming days, but the last month has been a great one for collectors holding Burrow.

PRICE GROWTH PERCENTAGE DECLINERS

1. Jarrett Stidham 2019 Prizm Red Ice PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 67%

2. Jarrett Stidham 2019 Select Field Level Silver PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 53%

3. Justin Jefferson 2020 Mosaic Pink Camo PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 53%

4. Justin Herbert 2020 Chronicles Prizm Black PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 48%

5. Justin Herbert 2020 Mosaic NFL Debut Green PSA 10 πŸ“‰ 46%

HERBERT TAKES A DIVE: Justin Herbert and the Chargers were immediately eliminated from the playoffs by Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars, and an already-shaky market for Herbert has just continued to dip in the aftermath. Herbert never quite put things together the way many hoped he would this season, and his PSA 10 rookies tracked by Market Movers are down 46% across 8,500 sales over the last 180 days.

Narrowing his market to the last 30 days, those PSA 10 rookies are down 9% collectively and, as expected, Herbert’s key Prizm, Optic and Select rookies are all trending down over the last month, too. The primary target for many collectors, Herbert’s Donruss Base has managed to stay positive with a strong price point and fantastic sales volume.

DOLLAR GROWTH RISERS

1. Joe Burrow 2020 Contenders Rookie Ticket Auto PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $2,280

2. Patrick Mahomes 2017 Prizm Silver PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $745

3. Joe Burrow 2020 Prizm Silver PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $701

4. Patrick Mahomes 2017 Optic Red & Yellow PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $700

5. Patrick Mahomes 2017 Optic Base PSA 10 πŸ“ˆ $577

SUPER BOWL MAHOMES: It’s been mentioned in this space repeatedly, but it’s still always impressive to see the price increases on Patrick Mahomes‘ cards due to their already-high price point. Mahomes’ Prizm Silver should always be closely monitored due to excessive shill-bidding, but his other key rookies are all up, too.

The Optic Base has always been a key rookie for Mahomes, and that Red & Yellow variation actually creates a nice color match for Kansas City, giving collectors another great card to target. Overall, Mahomes’ PSA 10 rookies tracked by Market Movers are up 12% collectively over the last 30 days, with that Prizm Silver PSA 10 is now back up over $4,400.

4. Josh Allen 2018 Prizm Base PSA 10 πŸ“‰ $102

5. Joe Burrow 2020 Optic Blue Hyper PSA 10 πŸ“‰ $77

ALLEN DIPS AFTER LOSS: Few players saw their prices surge as much as Josh Allen‘s to start the season, but now he’s heading in the opposite direction just as quickly. The Bills were bounced from the playoffs by Joe Burrow and the Bengals, and Allen didn’t look great in either of Buffalo’s two postseason games this year.

His cards are still selling with strong volume, but major price decreases have infected his market. Overall, Allen’s PSA 10 rookies tracked by Market Movers are down 17% collectively over the last 30 days, and his flagship base rookies from Prizm, Donruss and Optic are all among the biggest decliners with significant volume.
