How much is that card worth anyway?

Is Saquon Barkley a Buy Coming Off an Injury? Buy, Sell, Hold

Saquon Barkley’s status for Week 1 is still uncertain as the running back finishes recovering from a torn ACL. Is it time to buy in on the New York Giants star before he lights up SportsCenter again?

We cover that and more community submissions in this week’s Forecast:

Luka Doncic

Doncic and his Dallas Mavericks were bounced out of the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers, and this year’s title run quickly ended. Doncic’s Prizm Base has become one of the signature cards of this generation, but that early exit has helped contribute to a dip this offseason.

Doncic’s 2018 Prizm Base PSA 10 is down 2% over the last 30 days while his 2018 Select Concourse PSA 10 is down 11% over the same period.

Geoff’s pick: Buy

Deandre Ayton

Ayton has been incredibly popular in the hobby recently — especially for a big man — and has had multiple appearances in our Top 5 Hottest Cards. Luka Doncic and Trae Young still get most of the credit for making that 2018 NBA Draft class fantastic, but Ayton has proven he deserves to be part of that conversation, too.

He’s been almost unstoppable around the rim during the playoffs, and his cards have been climbing as a result. Ayton’s 2018 Prizm Base PSA 10 is up 37% over the last 30 days while his lower-POP 2018 Select Concourse PSA 10 is up 41% over the same period.

Geoff’s pick: Sell

Juan Soto

Soto didn’t win the Home Run Derby, but he did eliminate the heavy favorite in Shohei Ohtani. He’s been decent this season, batting .283/.407/.445 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI at the All-Star break, and his cards have been rising despite extremely high populations.

Soto’s 2018 Topps Update PSA 10 has a POP of nearly 18,000 and is up 18% over the last seven days. His 2018 Topps Chrome Update PSA 10 is also up 2% over the same period with another massive population of 10,018.

Geoff’s pick: Buy

Lamar Jackson

The 2019 NFL MVP had a “down” season in 2020 with just 33 total touchdowns, and he’s looking to rebound in 2021. The Ravens added help along the offensive line and receiver this offseason and collectors seem to be optimistic that Jackson will have another fantastic season.

After dipping hard in recent months, Jackson’s cards have been steadily climbing again. Despite that climb Jackson’s 2018 Optic Base PSA 10 is down 41% over the last 30 days while his 2018 Prizm Base PSA 10 is down 5%.

Geoff’s pick: Buy

Saquon Barkley

One of the NFL’s most electric stars, Barkley is still recovering from a torn ACL in Week 2 of last season, and the Giants are taking things slow with their star running back. Barkley’s status for Week 1 is still uncertain — he’s reportedly determined to play — and how collectors value his cards moving forward will be interesting.

Barkley’s 2018 Optic Base PSA 10 is up 8% over the last 30 days while his 2018 Prizm Base PSA 10 is down 25% over the same period.

Geoff’s pick: Buy
